  • Registration is now open for Wilton's 2018 Spring Flag Football Program.  The Spring Season will start on April 16th and ends on June 16th, which is a 9 week season with 9 games scheduled to play.  This will be our first FULL season of Flag Football in the Spring, our practices and games will both be held at Middlebrook Field.  This will also be the first time we are offering Flag Football for 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th graders.  We will now have 6 Flag Football divisions, however each division is pending based on the number of players and coaches that register.
  • Our Wilton Flag Football League believes all student athletes should play multiple sports each season.  We will do our best to adjust our practice times and game times to fit your childs schedule so they can play 2 or 3 sports with little to no conflicts.
  • Our Flag Website has been updated and we have created an FAQ page for the Spring Flag Football season to help answer any questions you might have.  Stay tuned for more updates, email the Wilton Flag Football Commissioner if you have any questions:
  • Registration for Fall Flag Football will open in June.

Parent Email Sent to 3rd/4th graders on 3/29

Hello Wilton’s 3rd and 4th grade football parents,

  • I just wanted to give everyone a Spring Flag Football season update.  Currently the 3rd/4th graders have 20 registered players which means we will have 4 teams with 5 players on each team.  We definitely want to see this registration number between 24 and 28 so we can have 6 to 7 players per team.  We need to do some more Flag player recruiting at this grade, so if you know any family’s that might be interested let them know registration will be open until April 15th.  Officially we could let a player join after spring break as late as week 2 if some decides they want to play Flag Football that late.
  • We will be having a Parent meeting from 7pm to 8pm on Monday April 2nd at Comstock in Room 17.  All parents are invited to attend to ask any questions regarding the Spring Flag Football Season.  Most of the coaches will be attending the meeting as well so you can meet your childs Flag Football Coaches in person.  Any parents that have not registered their child to play Spring Flag Football yet are also welcome to attend. The coaches and I will be available to everyone to answer all of your questions and explain how the season will look this Spring.
  • We have 4 volunteer coaches so far for this division and we would like to get 4 more coaching volunteers.  Anyone that is interested in helping out, call me, text me or send me an email and we can discuss the details of what is expected.  We are counting on all of our parents to help make every season of Flag Football the best it can be.  We are all volunteers and we volunteer because we love the sport of football and want to teach it to these young student athletes.  Team sports is one the best ways for kids and parents to make lifelong friendships.
  • So don’t be shy, if you want to get involved with Wilton Youth Football we have plenty of different jobs that we need help with each year.  We need volunteer referees, we need a Flag Photographer, we need Flag Sideline monitors etc.  There is a whole list of volunteer jobs we would like to get filled on the Flag webpage.
  • Our plan is to have a Spring Flag Football Skills Clinic this Saturday March 31st from 12pm to 2pm at Middlebrook for all registered players and any players interested in registering.  But unfortunately the Fields are still not officially open, I am waiting on an email back from Parks and Rec giving us the approval for our event.  It looks like Saturday will be a sunny day so I am hoping they open the fields for us.  As of now the event is cancelled for this Saturday, but if I get the approval I will email everyone immediately and we can have our Flag Football skills clinic this Saturday.  Stay tuned.
  •  Our Spring Flag Football Team draft will take place on Friday April 6th, which gives parents a few more days to register a new player after the Parent meeting.  Our plan is to balance the teams the best we can with 3rd graders and 4th graders and also based on each players rankings.  We also want to make sure we are 100% accurate with any other sports conflicts that you might have.  I have put together a couple questions that I would like each parent to answer so we can make sure we know as much as possible about each players skill level and other sports commitments.
  • Question 1 = In your opinion what is your childs Flag Football skill level?
    1. Outstanding Player (should be one of the best in the league)
    2. Very Good Player (above average player with great potential)
    3. Average Player (has potential to be a very good with the right coaching)
    4. Still Learning (has never played or is still learning the basics of football)
  • Question 2 = If your child plays multiple sports what days and times are you not available?
    1. Weekdays we can not attend (select all that apply)
      • Mondays?
      • Tuesdays?
      • Wednesdays?
      • Thursdays?
      • Fridays?
    2. On Saturdays we have other sport commitments during this time =
      • 4/21 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 4/28 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 5/05 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 5/12 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 5/19 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • No Game Memorial Day Weekend
      • 6/02 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 6/09 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
      • 6/16 we have a commitment from _____ to _____
  • I understand that each sport can have changing Saturday game times.  Hopefully most of you have your current Saturday schedules, then you can update me as you get more information or if your Saturday commitment time changes.
  • My commitment to all of the parents is to make sure that we do our very best to schedule our Flag Football games around your childs other sports.  That can only be done with your help, I need to know your individual Saturday schedules when you get them and then I can adjust our Saturday game schedule.  For example if your child has a game or practice at 8:30 am we would most likely have our Flag games start at 12pm or 1pm.  If your child has a practice or game at 10:30 am we most likely would have our Flag games start at 2pm or 3pm.  If your child has a practice or game at 2pm, we most likely will have our Flag games start at 9am or 10am.  We have lots of flexibility to have our games as early as 9am or as late as 6pm if needed.
  • Our plan is to have very small teams, between 5 to 7 players on each team, so this way we can limit players on the sideline.  We can play 4 players vs 4 players or 5v5, 6v6 or even 7 players vs 7 players.  This way everyone can be on the field at the same time when possible.  One thing that will be very very important is that we schedule our Flag Football games at the right time so we can assure we have close to 100% attendance each Saturday.  I know we can do it, we just need all of the parents to give me their Saturday schedules from April 16th to June 16th and keep me updated if there are any changes.  Together we can make sure we adjust our Flag Football Saturday game times so each family will not have to rush from one game to another.  I would like to give everyone an hour or two between games so each player can rest a little, change clothes, eat lunch etc before they have to crank it up again for another sport.
  • I look forward to hearing from all of you regarding Player Rankings, Saturday Commitments, Volunteer Coaching and anything else you would like to talk with me about.  It is such a pleasure for me to be the Commissioner of Wilton Flag Football.  I have loved the game of football all of my life, and ever since my first football coaching job back in 1999 I have loved and respected the great responsibility of teaching student athletes how to be a great player, a great teammate and a great leader.  This is one of the funnest jobs I have ever had and I want to thank all of the parents that volunteer with me to make sure that Wilton Youth Football is one of the best run sports league in town!

Sincerely:

Tony Palumbo Jr

Hello Wilton Flag Football Families,

  • Our Spring Flag Football Season starts in about 1 month and so far our registration looks great considering this is our very first Spring Season for Flag Football.  I have pushed back the $50 late fee one more week so everyone has until March 19th to avoid the late fee for Spring Flag Football registration.  If you know of any friends that are considering playing Flag Football this Spring let them know they have until Sunday night to avoid the late fee and have them contact me if they have any questions.

  • Below are the details of each grade including the current volunteer coaches.  Our goal is to have a minimum of 28 players and a minimum of 8 coaches for each division.  We have a little over 30 days to reach our registration goals and we need everyone’s help to get it done.  For those divisions that are a little short on registrations we can create 4 teams with just 20 players and get by with at least 4 coaches if needed.  If you would like to Coach Flag Football this season contact me and I can add you to the list and answer any questions you might have.

  • Again my promise to the parents and players is that we will make sure that our practice times and game times do not interfere with other sports.  We support student athletes playing multiple sports and we will do everything we can to make sure they can fit Spring Flag Football into their Spring sports schedule.

  • Here are some of the important upcoming dates, on March 30th we plan to have a coaches meeting at Comstock @ 7pm.  On March 31st we plan to have a Free QB, RB & WR clinic for all Spring Flag Football registered players at Middlebrook Time TBD.  On April 2nd we plan to have a parents meeting at Comstock @ 7pm.  Then on April 6th we plan to have our Flag Football Draft with all of the Head Coaches.  Check our website for all of the upcoming Important dates.

  • 1st/2nd Grade Division currently has 26 registered players and 4 volunteer coaches (Gemelli, Capalbo, Brindley, Kaiser).  We are 2 players short of our goal and 4 volunteer coaches short of our goal.  You can check the list of player names on our Flag Website, if you don’t see your name on the roster let me know.  Also if you want to be added to the volunteer coaches list let me know.

  • 3rd/4th Grade Division currently has 18 registered players and 3 volunteer coaches (Jagetic, Condon, Katz).  We are 10 players short and 5 volunteer coaches short of our goal.  We could create 4 teams with just 20 players and we could get by with just 4 volunteer coaches.  That means we are just 2 players short and 1 volunteer coach short.

  • 5th/6th Grade Division currently has 17 registered players and 2 coaches (Jackowski, Santosky).   We are 11 players short and 6 volunteer coaches short of our goal.  We could create 4 teams with just 20 players and we could get by with just 4 volunteer coaches.  That means we are just 3 players short and 2 volunteer coaches short.

  • 7th/8th Grade Division currently has 1 registered players and zero volunteer coaches.  This division is not looking good but we will do our best to get these players on a team this Spring.

  • 9th/10th11th/12th Grade Division currently has 4 registered players and 1 volunteer coach (Marty Zoruba).  This is our first High School Division and I am hoping for at least 10 to 14 players so we can have 2 teams and put together a tournament for this division.

  • Contact me if you have any questions or comments.

Hello Wilton Flag Football Families,

  • So far so good, we have hit 50 registered players for our 1st Spring Flag Football League.  Each team will have 5 to 7 players on it so we can have little to no players on the sideline for each game.
  • I have been keeping a close eye on the practice/game days and times of other sports to make sure that we dont have any conflicts.  If you have any updated information on other sports practices/games times please let me know.  I have posted what I know so far on the website and I will continue to update that link as we get closer to the season.
  • We still have 2 months until the Spring Flag Football Season officially starts, our goal is to have over 100 players registered with 2 coaches for every team.  If you know any players that might be interested in joining us, give them our website or have them email me directly if they have any questions.
  • If you are interested in coaching this Spring season, send me an email and we can discuss the details of what is expected.  We will have a few coaches meetings over the next couple months to discuss our flag rules and the draft procedure etc.
  • I have updated our website (Important Dates) to have our first Parent meeting.  The plan is to have it at the Comstock Community Center a couple weeks before the season starts so we can answer any questions that you might have in person.
  • Of course you can contact me anytime if you have any questions or concerns.  Our goal is to have the Wilton Flag Football Program be the very best in Connecticut.  We can only achieve this goal with great volunteer help from our Wilton parents.  Our kids deserve the best experience playing youth sports, lets make sure we give it to them!
